Technical definition
An adjustable base jack (also called a screw jack or levelling jack) is a height-adjustable steel support used at the base of scaffold standards to compensate for uneven ground. It consists of a threaded stem (commonly 34 mm or 38 mm diameter, 600–760 mm in length) welded to a flat base plate (typically 150 mm × 150 mm). Base jacks are rated for vertical loads of 50–70 kN depending on stem extension. A U-head jack is a variant with a U-shaped fork top used to support horizontal bearers or formwork beams instead of vertical standards. Both types are commonly electro-galvanized or hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection.
