Technical definition
A scaffolding coupler is a forged or pressed steel fitting used to connect two scaffold tubes (typically 48.3 mm OD) at a fixed or variable angle. The three primary types are right-angle couplers (90° fixed connection, slip load ≥ 6 kN per BS EN 74-1), swivel couplers (variable-angle connection), and sleeve couplers (in-line tube extension). Drop forged couplers are made from a single billet of steel heated and shaped under high pressure, producing a denser grain structure and higher load capacity than pressed steel alternatives. Standard weight ranges from 0.95 kg to 1.15 kg per unit depending on type and standard.
