Technical definition
A scaffolding tube is a circular hollow steel section with a 48.3 mm outside diameter and 3.2 mm wall thickness, manufactured to BS 1139 or EN 39 standards. Standard lengths range from 1.0 m to 6.4 m. Tubes are typically hot-dip galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461 for corrosion resistance and are load-rated for use as standards, ledgers, and transoms in tube-and-coupler scaffold systems. Scaffold boards (also called scaffold planks) are steel or aluminum walking platforms, commonly 210 mm or 250 mm wide, used to form working decks at height.
